Bossuet's taken the mandrake to the bar. The plant seems to like Bossuet, which is certainly useful for their living situation, and indicates at least some vegetable intelligence. Not that Joly is biased. (He's incredibly biased.)

And it leaves Joly free to explore the library. or at least the section on magnetism, with a side voyage into the history (history, now!) of telegraphs, and a stop for a few passages on electricity...

He stays reading until his stomach reminds him that however dead he is, it's still active. It's all right; he knows what supplies he needs to ask for. And he's been in here for...how long? Hard to tell.

Lunchtime, though, that's a solid point of reference. He stretches and heads down to the bar.
